About the Artist

Before moving to Aberystwyth, Robert May taught art classes, day courses and workshops for a number of years both privately and for the Gwynedd Council. He also established the Aber Art Group, which still meets regularly in Penparcau.

Robert had his own studio and gallery in the village of Abergynolwyn in the Snowdonia National Park, but before coming to Wales in 1989, his work was known in the South East of England and sold from his studio and gallery at the 'Master Makers' complex near Canterbury in Kent.

Although originally trained in commercial art, he is widely acknowledged as a landscape painter and has a number of successful one-man shows to his credit. His sensitive portrayal of light and shade captures the Welsh atmosphere and gives his paintings a special attractive quality.

Robert has now retired from running his own gallery and from teaching, but his work is still available as CARDS AND PRINTS depicting many of his favourite subjects. His original paintings can be found in private collections both in the UK and abroad.
